Petit Le Mans 2011 certainly set itself up to be a closely contested affair and one of the races to definitely be at, and I would agree, having been involved in it, certainly not from our point of view, but from the fans side, it was amazing from the number of spectators that were there and also the fights going pretty much down to the wire. LMP1 was looking as if that battle was going down to the wire but unfortunately, for Audi, it didn’t.

“I think we have to be honest and say that it was a disappointing weekend in Imola. Audi finished in third and fourth places but the distance to the first two Peugeots was significantly bigger than what we expected after qualifying – certainly after the first hour of the race.

Immediately I realised after the start that the car balance was very good. The guys had done a superb job from the incident on Thursday night to bring it into perfect shape. I was up into fourth quite early on, in fact after the first corner, and was quicker than the Peugeot ahead of me but it took quite a long time through the stint to get in a position to overtake as they were pretty fast on the straight. However we were much quicker in the cornering.

Well, Le Mans is upon us. It is now! We have had quite a lot of performance testing and endurance tests with the Audi R18 TDI since we ran for the first time back in November 2010. We have had a run on the Le Mans circuit with the pre-test which went extremely well.
